Tunisian Crochet Handbag

It was easy and fun to make this bag. The bag is made with cotton/linen yarn, 6 skein of yarn used. Tunisian simple stitch was used for the pattern. If you like, you can add liner inside the bag. The detailed information is below.

Materials

Tunisian crochet hook- double sided https://amzn.to/47EwxSc

Tunisian crochet hook Interchangeable- https://amzn.to/3U2HBVR

Yarn needle to weave the ends

Scissors

Written instructions:

With 2 strands of yarn, ch 35.

Switch same size hook but longer in length (it’s easier to crochet all 35 chains)

Round 1: Starting from the 2nd ch, insert the hook, yarn over and pull up a loop through the each ch until the end of the row. at the end of the row you will have 35 loops on the hook.

Return pass- Yarn over and pull through 1 loop first and 2 loops at a time, for the rest of the loops until 1 loop left on the hook.

Rnd 2-58: Will be worked on 5 sts only. Starting from the 2nd vertical bar, insert the hook, under the vertical bar yarn over and pull through the loop- tss

Sl st to each vertical bar to close the round. Fasten off.

Continue making identical long bars like this until you have total of 7 long bars.
(Each row will have 5 tss)

Connecting the ends of the long bars

1 sc to each st ( 5sts on each bar)

Ch 5. Rows 1-4 : 1 tss to each st, follow by return pass.

Row 5: Continue with 1 tss to each st connecting to the top of long bar as seen below.

Rows 6-9: 1 tss to each st, follow by return pass.

Row 10: Connect to the next bar from under.

Rows 11-14: 1 tss to each st, follow by return pass.

Connect to the next bar from the top.

Continue making 4 rows and connect alternating from under and top of the long bars.

Fold in half and continue to other side.

Connect the ends with sl st.

Continue adding bars like this sideway alternating over and under of previous row creating squares

Row 1: Working on the top, handle part, Using 5 mm crochet hook, add the yarn and 1 sc to each st around. 70 sts total.

Making the handle, leave 15 sts in the middle.

Row 2: 1 sc to each st until the stitch marker, Ch 25, skip 15 sts, 1 sc to next st

1 sc to each st until the marker, ch 25 skip 15 sts, 1 sc to next st and until the end of the row.

Row 3: 1 sc to each st and to each ch of the handle.

Row 3: 1 sl st to each st. Fasten off. Weave the ends.
