Lightweight crochet handbag/purse

April 5, 2023 · Crochet

Crochet tote/bag made with tape yarn- beginner friendly. First time I have crocheted with tape yarn and I love the feeling of it. The bag is lightweight and strong at the same time and feels very soft. Hope you enjoy it.

Materials:

Bulky tape yarn https://amzn.to/4iplUIQ https://amzn.to/4kB09Hy (Total of 2 skeins of yarn used for this project- 1 skein from each color)

5.00 mm crochet hook https://amzn.to/3DsOb2a

Abbreviations:

Ch: Chain

Sc: Single crochet

St(s): Stitch(es)

Sl st: Slip stitch

Written Tutorial:

Ch 23.

Round 2: Starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc each ch around until the last ch. 3 sc to the last ch. Continue to other side with 1 sc each st around until the last st. 2 sc to the last st.

Place the marker first and last sc of 3 sc
For the next row, we will increase the stitches which has the marker.

Row 2: 3 sc in next st and place the marker on the middle of 3sc. 1 sc each st around until the marker. 3 sc to the marked st. Place marker on the middle. 1 sc to the next st (st/sts between the marked st). 3 sc to the next marker and place the marker on the middle. 1 sc to each st until the next marker. 3 sc to the next marker and place the marker to middle.

Row 3-10: 1 sc to every st except the sts with the markers, place 3 st to every marked st and place back the marker to middle st, continue this for total of 10 rows.

3 sc in next st and place the marker on the middle of 3sc

This is how it will look after 10 rows.

Row 11-50: 1 sc each st around. Place the marker for the beginning st.

Adding the color b (I changed the color in row 28)

Row 51: sl st to each st around.

Placed the markers in the middle for the handle in both sides, leaving 10 sts at the ends.

Ch 90 into the marked st and connect the end ch with the next marked st to create a handle. Do same to the other side.

Continue with sl st around 3 more rows including the handles.
