Crochet Star Stitch shoulder/handbag

Hello. This is an easy bag, made in less than 2 days. It’s made with 2 patterns, star stitch pattern and basic single crochet pattern. Body of the bag is made with only 1 skein of T-shirt yarn and the handle is made of macrame recycled cotton yarn, less than one skein. Written instructions are below. Also video tutorial is attached below. Hope you like it.

Materials:

5 mm crochet hook https://amzn.to/45BINBO

Scissors

Darning needle

Abbreviations:

Ch: Chain

Sc: Single crochet

Sl st: Slip stitch

Hdc: Half double crochet

St (s): Stitch (es)

Notes: Star stitch bag started as one piece as rectangle and 2 short sides added /sew to make a box and the top is folded down and the handles made with macrame yarn.

Beginning star stitch: Ch 3. Insert your hook into second ch from hook, yo pull up a loop (2 loops on hook). Insert hook into next ch, yo, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). (Insert your hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop) 3 times (6 loops on hook)
yo, pull through all 6 loops
ch 1 (which creates the ‘eye’ or center of the star)

Making star stitch along the side of the previous star stitch: Insert the hook into the eye (center), yo, pull up a loop, insert the hook into the end st, and into the next 3 sts,
yo, pull through all 6 loops. Ch 1 (which creates the ‘eye’ or center of the star)

Written instructions:

Row 1: Ch 21.

Making very first star stitch, starting from the second chain, insert the hook into the next 5 chs and pick up one loop in each of the 5 chs ( you have 6 loops on hook) yo, pull through all 6 loops and ch 1 to create the ‘eye’ or center of the star.

Continue making 6 more star stitches along the side of the previous star stitches. Total of 7 star stitch. 1 hdc to last st and ch 2 and turn your work.

Row 2: 2 hdc to each of eyes of star stitches and 2 hdc to last st. Total of 16 hdc in this row. Ch 3 and turn your work.

Row 3: Make a beginning star stitch and continue making 6 more star stitches along the side of the previous star stitches. Total of 7 star stitch. 1 hdc to last st.

Row 4: 2 hdc to each of eyes of star stitches and 2 hdc to last st. Total of 16 hdc in this row. Ch 3 and turn your work.

Rows 5-7: Repeat rows 3 and 4.

Row 8: Ch 1 and turn your work. 2 sc into the each eye of the star st and 2 sc to last st. 16 sc.

Row 9-23: 1 sc to each st. 16 sc.

1 sc to to around the edge of the rectangle.

Total sts of 4 sides : 92 sc (16 sc x2 – short sides, 30 sc x2- long sides)

Length is 48 inch (122 cm)

Making the sides/ Row 1: Ch 7, starting from the second ch, 1 sc to each ch. 6 sc. Ch 1 and turn your work.

Rows 2-7: 1 sc to each st.

Sew the sides.

Making the handle.

Connect the macrame cotton yarn in the middle of the side of the bag. 1 sc to same st and the next st.

Continue making 2 sc to each row until desired length.
