Hi everyone,

This is a crochet raffia granny square bag made with 8 granny squares, made in 2 pieces and connected together. First granny squares are made and connected together, total of 8 granny squares.Attached the yarn and continued to top part. Bottom is made and connected two pieces together. It’s very easy and fun to make it. Written and video tutorial is below.

Materials:

Raffia paper yarn (I used 3 different brand paper yarns)

Crochet hooks (2.50 mm and 4 mm)

Yarn needle

Scissors

Abbreviations:

Ch: Chain

Sc: Single crochet

Dc: Double crochet

Fo: fasten off

St: Stitch

Sl st: Slip stitch

Ssc: Split single crochet

Rssc: Reversed split single crochet

Sm: Stitch marker

Final measurements:

One granny square: 4.5 inches x 4.5 inches ( 11 cmx 11 cm)

Height of the bag: 13 inches ( 33 cm)

Length of the bag: 17 inches (43 cm)

Handle: 22 inches (56 cm)

Written Tutorial:

Using 2.50 mm crochet hook, ch 3, make 1 sc to the third chain from hook.

Round 1: Ch 3, 2 dc into the space.

(Ch 2, 3 dc into the space) x 3 more times. Chain 2, slip stitch to close the round and fasten off.

Round 2: Attach color b to any ch 2 space. Ch 2, 2 dc into the same space and ch 1. 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc to the next space. Ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc to the next 2 spaces. 3 double crochet to the beginning space. Chain 2 slip stitch and fasten off.

Attach color c and chain 2.

Round 3: 2 dc into the same space. * (ch 1. 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) to next space. Ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc to the next space. Repeat from * until the end.

Round 4: Attach color d and ch 2. 2 dc into the same space. * (ch 1. 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) to next 2 spaces. Ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc to the next space. Repeat from * until the end.

Chain 2 slip stitch and fasten off.

Connect 8 granny squares side by side, make a circle.

Attach the main color to the any granny square.

Make 1 sc to the each st, each space, and each connecting st. 144 sc.

Continue with 1 sc to the beginning st, place a sm to the beginning st.

1 ssc to each st around. Ssc : Making sc going into the “v” on the front of the st.

Continue making 1 ssc in the round for total of 12 rounds. Don’t forget to place a sm to the first st.

Round 13: 1 reversed split single crochet to each stitch. (going backwards)

Sl st to close the end and fasten off.

Making the bottom of the bag:

Row 1: Chain 11,

Row 2: Starting from the back bump of second ch, 1 sc to each back bump 10 sc.

Row 3: Ch 1 and turn your work. 1 sc to each stitch 10 sc.

Row 3-60: Chain 1 and turn your work. 1 sc to each st. 10 sc.

Body of the bag – going around. Row 60: 1 sc to each st. 2 sc to each edge (4 edges) 144 stitches. Place a sm to the beginning stitch.

Round 1: 1 ssc to each st around in the round. 144 ssc.

Continue in the round for to total of 24 rounds.

Rounds 16-24, I used a different color. This is up to you. At the end of round 24, slip stitch x 4 o close the end, chain 1, and fasten off.

Working on the bottom of attached granny squares. attach the yarn to any granny square.

Make 1 sc. to the each st, each space, and each connected st. 144 sc. Slip stitch to close the round.

Connect two pieces together. using larger hook (4 mm) You should have total of 144 stitches in both connecting pieces.

For making the handles: You need 2 stes of:

4 x 50 inches (127 cm) 2 mm jute rope to make braid and attached to the bag.
