Crochet Koala

Hello everyone,

I have always wanted to crochet Koala. I don’t know why but they are just too cute and I think it would be a wonderful gift for kids or home decor.

Written Tutorial:

Making the head (using color a)

Round 1: 6 single crochet into the magic circle. Tighten the magic circle.

Round 2: 2 single crochet to each stitch around. 12 single crochet. Place a sm to the beginning stitch.

Round 3: *1 single crochet to next stitch, 2 single crochet to next stitch. Repeat from * in the round. 18 single crochet

Round 4: *1 single crochet to next 2 stitches, 2 single crochet to next stitch. Repeat from * in the round. 24 single crochet

Round 5: *1 single crochet to next 3 stitches, 2 single crochet to next stitch. Repeat from * in the round. 30 single crochet

Round 6: 1 single crochet to next stitch, 2 single crochet to next stitch. *1 single crochet to next 4 stitches, 2 single crochet to next stitch. Repeat from * in the round. 36 single crochet

Round 7: 1 single crochet to next 2 stitches, 2 single crochet to next stitch. *1 single crochet to next 5 stitches, 2 single crochet to next stitch. Repeat from * in the round. 42 single crochet

Rounds 8-11: 1 single crochet to each stitch around. 42 single crochet.

Round 12: 1 single crochet to next 7 stitches. (1 single crochet to next stitch, 2 single crochet to next stitch) x3 times. 1 single crochet to next 22 stitches. (1 single crochet to next stitch, 2 single crochet to next stitch) x3 times. 1 single crochet to last 7 stitches. Total stitches in this round is 48 stitches.

Round 13-16: 1 single crochet to each stitch around. 48 single crochet.

Round 17: * 1 single crochet to next 7 stitches, single crochet two together to next 2 stitches. Repeat from * in the round. 42 single crochet.

Round 18: * 1 single crochet to next 6 stitches, single crochet two together to next 2 stitches. Repeat from * in the round. 36 single crochet.

Round 19: 1 single crochet to next 2 stitches, single crochet 2 together to next 2 stitches. * 1 single crochet to next 5 stitches, single crochet two together to next 2 stitches. Repeat from * in the round. 30 single crochet.

Round 20: * 1 single crochet to next 4 stitches, single crochet two together to next 2 stitches. Repeat from * in the round. 24 single crochet.

Slip stitch, chain 1 and fasten off.

Making the body:

Make the same circle piece you did for the head using color a. Round 1: 6 sc. Round 2: 2 sc in each st: 12 sc. Round 3: 1 sc, 1 increase: 18 sc Round 4: 1 sc in next 2, 2 sc in next: 24 sc. Round 5: 1 sc in next 3, 2 sc in next: 30 sc. Round 6: 1 sc in next, 2 sc in next *1 sc in next 4, 2 sc in next. Rep. from *:: 36 sc. Round 7: 1 sc in next 2, 2 sc in next. *1 sc in next 5, 2 sc in next. Rep. from * 42 sc.

Round 8-10: 1 single crochet to each stitch around. 42 single crochet. (for 3 rows)

Row 11: *1 single crochet to next 6 stitches, single crochet 2 together to next 2 stitches(decreasing 1 stitch). Repeat from * in the round. 36 single crochet.

Round 12: 1 single crochet to each stitch around. 36 single crochet.

Round 13: 1 single rocket to next 2 stitches. 2 single crochet to next stitch. *1 single crochet to next 5 stitches, single crochet 2 together to next 2 stitches(decreasing 1 stitch). Repeat from * in the round. 30 single crochet.

Round 14:1 single crochet to each stitch around. 30 single crochet.

Round 15: *1 single crochet to next 4 stitches, single crochet 2 together to next 2 stitches(decreasing 1 stitch). Repeat from * in the round. 24 single crochet

Round 16:1 single crochet to each stitch around. 24 single crochet.

Slip stitch to close the yarn, chain 1, fasten off. (when you fasten off, make sure to leave long tail to sew this piece to the head piece later on.

Making the nose (use color b): Make a slip knot and chain 4.

Starting from the back bump of second chain, 1 single crochet to next 2 stitches.

4 single crochet to back bump of the last stitch.

Turn to other site and make 1 single crochet to next 2 stitches. Slip stitch to close the round, chain 1, and fasten off.

Making the ear, using color a:

Round 1: Make a magic circle and 8 single crochet into the magic circle.

Round 2: 2 long loop single crochet to each stitch around.(when you make the single crochets, pull the yarn with your thumb, bring it to forward and make a single crochet with the long string- as shown) 16 stitches.

Round 3: *1 single crochet to next stitch, 2 single crochet to next stitch. Repeat from * in the round. 24 single crochet.

Round 4: 1 long loop single crochet to each stitch around. 24 stitches.

Round 5: *1 single crochet to next 3 stitches. 2 single crochet to next stitch. Repeat from * in the round. 30 stitches.

Round 6: 1 single crochet to each stitch around. 30 single crochet.

Round 7: Single crochet 2 together to each 2 stitches in the round. 15 stitches.

Slip stitch to close the round, chain 1, and fasten off.

Cut the each long loops from the middle.

Brush the long strands with comb. Cut the ends, to make strands smaller and give clean look. Make 2 of these.

Making the legs (using color a):

Round 1: Make a magic circle and make 6 single crochet inside the magic circle.

Round 2: 2 single crochet to each stitch around 12 single crochet.

Round 3: *1 single crochet to next 3 stitches. 2 single crochet to next stitch. Repeat from * in the round. 15 single crochet.

Rounds 4-6: 1 single crochet to each stitch around. 15 single crochet.

Round 7: 1 single crochet to next 4 stitches, single crochet 2 together to next 6 stitches. 1 single crochet to last 5 stitches. Total stitches: 12 stitches.

Round 8: 1 single crochet to next 3 stitches. Single crochet 3 together to next 3 stitches. 1 single crochet to last 6 stitches. 10 stitches.

Round 9: 1 single crochet to each stitch around. 10 stitches.

Slip stitch, chain 1, and fasten off. Make 2 of these.

Making the arms, using color a:

Round 1: Make a mc. 6 single crochet inside the mc.

Round 2: 1 single crochet to next stitch, 2 single crochet to next stitch. Repeat from* in the round. 9 stitches.

Rounds 3-7: 1 single crochet to each stitch around. 9 stitches.

Round 8: Slip stitch to close the round, chain 1 and fasten off. Make 2

When you place the eyes, remember when we crochet the head face, we did increases on round 12 for both ends, you can play around to place eyes, between those increases.

In this example, the eyes were placed on 7th and 8th rows from the bottom, 13th and 14th rows from the top.

And the count between the eyes is 7 rows. You can always play around to find the best place.

Using glue place the nose piece as shown. I used stuffing for the head and body pieces.

Sew the body to the head using yarn needle.

Sew the arms and legs. When you place the second leg and arm, make sure they are symmetrical with each other.

And lastly, glue or sew the eras.
